Alan H. Grundy was born October 21, 1921 in Bolton, Lancashire, England. He now lives in a nursing home in Canada and suffers from a form of progressive dementia that prevents him from remembering a lot of things including things that relate to the content of his books. He attended Manchester University where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he first worked in England as a practical engineer and was a member of the Electrical Engineers and Works Managers. He continued his scientific research after moving to Canada where his work concerned, in part the design of warships and the development of engineering standards for the Canadian Defense Department, Government of Canada. On his own he studied extensively the subjects of cosmology, physics, geology, chemistry and paleontology among others. He was always very interested in knowing how the Universe, the Solar System and the world that surrounded him actually worked. And judging by the contents of all five of his books he certainly managed to discover many of those answers for himself! His degree in electrical engineering gave him a very unique perspective on many subjects plus he was probably born with lots of extra neurons which makes him a bit of a genius, (Einstein's brain when analyzed after he died had lots of extra neurons also), putting Mr. Grundy on a par with Galileo, Mendel, Newton, Einstein, and of more recent note, Steven Hawking, Richard Feinmann, Richard Dawkins and others. As a matter of fact, he was possibly above those persons in IQ level as he researched and wrote not just about one scientific subject but five! If you read all of his books you will know what I mean. Today of course because of the dementia, he does not function at the same level as he did in past. He can't drive a car or even go for walks by himself as he can't remember where he lives. This of course is very unfortunate for all of us since he can't do interviews or answer questions about the content of his books. He did not like pseudo science but enjoyed many other aspects of life such as living in a nice home, spending time with his wife and two daughters, (he was divorced and remarried once), traveling, (he traveled all over England and France to see for himself many of the stones and dolmens he wrote about in "Britain's Prehistoric Achievements"). He liked to spend time with friends, going to nice restaurants, watching TV, reading scientific journals and learning to use computers. In other words, pretty ordinary endeavors.
